Aprilia has launched a new 125 cc scooter in the Indian market. Called the Aprilia Storm 125, this new model has become the most affordable Aprilia product to be on sale in the Indian market. It borrows its design and powertrain from the SR 125 and thus looks quite familiar to the eye.
Aprilia had first showcased the Storm 125 scooter at the 2018 Auto Expo in Greater Noida. The production model introduced now comes with some minor changes. Firstly, the Storm is shod with 12-inch tyres as compared to the 14-inchers seen on the SR range of scooters. The design of the wheels too is simpler in comparison to what was seen at the Auto Expo.
Other changes on the Aprilia Storm, in comparison to the SR 125 include the missing disc brake at the front, as the Storm 125 comes with drum brakes at the front and rear, along with a combi-braking system (CBS). The Storm 125 also gets different set of tyres – Vee rubber of 120/80 profile at the front and 130/80 at the rear. In comparison, the Aprilia SR range comes with 120/70 section MRF Nylogrip Zapper tyres at the front as well as rear.
Powering the Aprilia Storm is a 124.49 cc, single-cylinder engine. This block can deliver 9.5 hp and 9.9 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a CVT automatic gearbox. This is the same powertrain that is found under the Aprilia SR 125.
The Storm 125 is Rs. 8,000 cheaper than the SR 125. It competes against the TVS Ntorq (drum brake) and the Honda Grazia (drum brake). The former is priced at Rs. 58,252, while the latter is pegged at Rs. 60,723 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
