New-gen Hyundai Creta 2020 revealed, images inside

Hyundai India has unveiled the 2020 Creta during the ongoing Auto Expo. The new-gen model gets a heavily redesigned exterior and interior, in addition to a revised BS6 compliant engine lineup. The company hasn’t revealed a specific launch date for the new Creta yet. However, the SUV is likely to be launched sometime in the month of March this year.

On the design front, the new-gen Creta looks similar to the Hyundai ix25 that was launched in China last year. This means that the SUV’s fascia gets a large cascading grille, a faux silver skid plate on the bumper, and a split headlamp setup. This headlamp arrangement includes a slim LED DRL on the top and the main headlamp cluster on the lower part of the bumper. There is a large LED strip lining the main cluster as well, while a fog lamp housing is located below.

Move to the side and it becomes apparent that the new Creta is a lot more curvy, as compared to the model it replaces. The wheel arches are beefed up to add some character, while there is no sharp line running across the door. However, the glass area looks similar to the first-gen Creta and thus reminds about the SUV’s heritage. The top-end variants of the new-gen Creta come with 17-inch alloy wheels.

The rear end of the Creta, like its front fascia, will surely polarise opinions. The taillights get a split arrangement that might look a bit fussy to people. Moreover, the taillights are joined by applique which, along with the low-positioned number plate housing, makes the rear look a bit bulky.

Under the hood, the new Hyundai Creta 2020 is expected to be offered with the same set of engines that we have seen on the Kia Seltos. Hence, we expect to see a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol churning out 115 PS and a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo diesel rated at 115 PS. Transmission options on offer will include a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard, a CVT automatic with the petrol and a torque converter automatic for the diesel.

Details about the new Creta price in India, interiors, features and variants will be revealed on the SUV’s launch date. The updated model will compete against the Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier, and Jeep Compass.
