New Honda Civic 2019 launched at Rs. 17.70 lakh

Honda Cars India has launched the tenth-generation model of the Civic sedan in India. The new Civic 2019 has been pegged at a starting price of Rs. 17.70 lakh (ex-showroom). It is available in five variants and two engine and gearbox options.

The Civic isn’t a new name for the Indian audience. The eighth-generation Civic was sold in the country for quite some time and still enjoys a cult following in the used car market. However, Honda discontinued the Civic due to poor demand for executive petrol sedans as that time. However, with the Indian automotive market now matured enough to attract a wide range of products, Honda has brought back the Civic moniker in the form of the tenth-gen model.

The new Honda Civic 2019 is a fairly large car. It measures 4,656 mm in length, 1,799 mm in width, 1,433 mm in height, while the wheelbase spans 2,700 mm. The sedan even boasts of a respectable boot space of 430 litres.

Design language on the outside is slightly on the aggressive side, with the Civic getting a host of cuts and creases on the body panel. The front fascia adorns a chrome bar in the middle, flanked by LED headlamps on either sides. The bumper gets a dual-tone layout, with blacked out inserts in the middle. In order to make the car look premium, Honda designers have also added multiple chrome accents across the body. The roofline aggressively tapers at the back to give the car a coupe-like side profile. Also accentuating the new Honda Civic‘s looks are the 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. The sedan can be bought in five colour options – Platinum White Pearl, Radiant Red Metallic, Modern Steel Metallic, Lunar Silver Metallic and Golden Brown Metallic.

On the inside, the Civic gets a dual-tone dashboard layout. The cabin is dominated by a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that sits at the top of the centre console. It supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The three-spoke steering wheel is wrapped in leather and comes with integrated buttons as well. Other features on offer include an automatic climate control system, electric sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, powered driver’s seat, leather upholstery, ambient lighting, and a lane-watch assist camera.

Honda hasn’t missed a beat in the safety department either. As a result, all variants of the new 2019 Civic comes with 4 airbags, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Agile Handle Assist (AHA), Hill Start Assist (HSA), ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, blind spot detection, multi-angle rear view camera and ISOFIX child safety seat anchors. It even gets an electronic parking brake with auto brake hold.

Powering the Honda Civic are two engine options – a petrol and a diesel. The petrol is a 1.8-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated unit that pumps out 139 bhp and 174 Nm of peak torque, while being mated to a CVT automatic gearbox. On the other hand, the diesel gets a 1.6-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged unit that exhales 118 bhp and 300 Nm with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
